How to set up an Email Account or Email Forwarder

You will need to login to cPanel, once in cPanel, click on 'Email Accounts', you will then see a form asking for the email address and password. Enter these details and press 'Create Account'.

Tip: You can set a quota (disk space limit), or leave it unlimited, we generally recommend leaving this unlimited because if you reach this limit you will stop receiving emails. Please also note that if you set it to unlimited, your email quota is technically still limited by the amount of disk space your hosting package allows. So if your package allows 5GB and your website uses 1GB of this, you would have 4GB of space for email, once this is filled up your email would stop working, however you would receive warning emails before you reach your disk space limit.

If you want the emails to go to an existing email address in cPanel (or an external email e.g. you@gmail.com), you could just set up an email forwarder by going to 'Forwarders' in cPanel. This saves having to check more than one email account. The disadvantage of this is that you can only send emails with the same 'reply' address as your existing email account, e.g. info@yoursite.com (or you@gmail.com if using an external email). So if you want to be able to send and receive emails as someoneelse@yoursite.com you will need to set up a new email as per the above instructions.

If you've set up an Email Account, you will now need to configure your emails on your mobile device or email application. The settings you need to do this can be obtained by going to the 'Email Accounts' page in cPanel, pressing the 'More' button and selecting 'Configure Mail Client' on the account you wish to set up.

If you are using an email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird or the Mac Mail app, you will see there are 'Automatic configuration scripts' on the page, which you simply run as instructed on the page and it should set up the email account in your email client for you.

You can also use the 'Manual Settings' at the bottom of the page if you wish to set up your email without using the Automatic configuration scripts.

Tip: Please take care when entering your email address and password, as logging in with the incorrect details can cause you to become blocked by the servers firewall. Email software tends to attempt to connect multiple times before telling you its failed, and you do this a few times with incorrect details you may find yourself being blocked by our firewall.

If this happens you'll be able to confirm this by trying to visit your website, if it doesn’t load then you will need to unblock yourself by following the instructions here.
